A Review of the Best Places for Vacation in North Carolina

VacationAs much as we love our area of North Carolina here at Derbyshire, we know that every once in a while, you just have to get away. Luckily, there are plenty of great vacation spots throughout the state, whether you’re looking for a quick weekend roadtrip or a week away to really relax. Here are our picks in each region.

Best Places to Visit in the NC Mountains, Piedmont, and Coastal Plain

Mountains

The mountains of North Carolina offer great getaway opportunities year round. They can provide an escape from the summer heat and also the perfect setting for a quick ski trip in the winter.

Asheville, NC

Of course, one of our favorite spots is Asheville. Located about 45 minutes from Derbyshire, it’s ideal for a day trip or a weekend jaunt. Downtown you’ll find wonderful shops, art galleries, boutique hotels and really awesome food. It’s also home to the Biltmore Estate, the largest private home ever built in the US.

Boone, NC

Home to Appalachian State University and named after the famous explorer Daniel Boone, this city is a hub for outdoor activities. Located just over two hours from our community, it’s an easy trip to take for a chance to visit from of the best state parks in the state. If you are visiting in the winter, you can check out Appalachian Ski Mountain.

Piedmont

The Piedmont region of North Carolina is without a doubt the best area in the state for entertainment and shopping.

Charlotte, NC

The largest city in North Carolina, Charlotte is a bustling place with plenty of activities to keep you entertained. One unique thing to do is to visit the US National Whitewater Center. There you can enjoy whitewater rafting, zip-lines, and stand-up paddle boarding. Also inside the park are plenty of free activities that visitors can enjoy.

Another attraction in Charlotte is the Hendrick Motorsports Complex, which is sure to keep the race fans happy. For younger visitors, you have Discovery Place, an enormous children’s museum that even the adults will enjoy.

Two more well-known activities would be the Panther’s football games and a visit to Carowinds theme park. With these being only a small sampling what Charlotte has to offer, it’s certainly worth the 90 minute drive from Derbyshire!

High Point, NC

For the traveler who enjoys shopping and decorating, High Point would be the perfect location for a visit. The city has been dubbed the “Home Furnishings Capital of the World
